We are in AUTUMN? How the hell has 2016 gone so quick, and I feel like I also repeat that in every monthly favourites, but really it will be October tomorrow, which means starting my second year of university, trying to apply for as many relevant summer internships as possible, halloween, lots of layers, the nights drawing in, the clocks doing back. It just all seems to be happening so quickly.

Monthly favourites? Oh yes, the actual point of this post.

L'Oreal Miss Hippie Waterproof Mascara

As mentioned in 'My Three to Try For September' post, if any of the three products really stood out for me, then I said I would include them in my monthly favourites. Sadly, at the moment only one of the three actually really stands out, but that doesn't mean I haven't been impressed with the other two products. However,  Miss Hippie mascara from L'oreal has been the one this month. I like to use this mascara as almost a 'base' for using another mascara. After curling my lashes I like to apply a thin layer of this mascara and damn does it hold the curl and make my lashes look long all day. Now that is what I am talking about. I don't know whether it is because it is waterproof, but it works. The only thing I don't like about it is the wand, for me it's just a bit too bendy and I am not a fan of bendy mascara wands.

L'Oreal True Match Highlighter

I have come to a conclusion that I really like L'oreal make up, hence why the second favourite also comes from them. This time it's their true match highlighter. I picked up this highlighter at the beginning of the month and everyday that I have worn make up since, this has been on my face. It is actually a '3 in 1' liquid glow illuminator, so you can use it as a primer, can blend in with foundation or just use as a highlighter. I prefer to use it as a primer. It gives me a really natural looking glow and doesn't make me look like my face is caky or spilling will grease and oil, which some products can do because of my oil skin. I have found that once I have applied this as a primer, then my foundation, then bloating my skin with a beauty blender wrapped in tissue paper it works really well and lats a lot longer by just bloating any excess oil on my skin.

OFAT 'Purple Rain' Nail Polish

Not going to lie but I have never heard of this brand until I got this nail polish with a birchbox at the beginning of the year. I had kinda forgotten about this nail polish (or is it varnish) until I wanted to change up the colours of my toe nails (yes them things) and found this in my stash. Now I know that nail polish on the toes seems to last forever, but I have now had this on my toes for 6 weeks and there isn't one chip. So well done OFAT. Also, it is in the most beautiful colour, which I feel could work very well on the fingers as well for autumn and winter.

Marc Jacobs 'Kiss Kiss Bang Bang' Lipstick

I simply couldn't write Septembers beauty favourites without mentioning one of my 'Current Go To Lipsticks', which most have featured in monthly favourites before, except for this one from Marc Jacobs. Yes, it isn't the most long lasting out there, but it is one of the lipsticks, whether it doesn't really matter if it wears off because it is basically the same colour of the lips just a little bit redder, thats all. Also it is a really good 'car size lipstick', it is the chosen lipstick to stay in my car now, for the days when I have been rushing and forget to put lipstick on.

Bridget Jones Baby

Okay so this isn't a beauty favourite, and I never talk about films on my blog, so really it is about time too. I just love this film, and it is damn right hilarious from the beginning till the end. Personally, I think it is the best of all three of the films. If you haven't watched it yet, then I will recommend that you do. Without giving too much away, but you will probably pick a side in the film.

The Chainsmokers ft. Halsey 'Closer'

I really can't stop listening to this song. It is literally on repeat all the time. It is probably because it is so catchy, but I am just really enjoying listening to this song.

What has been your monthly favourites?

There is something very autumnal about sitting down with a good book, a hot drink (preferably hot chocolate, with all the trimmings, but a cup of tea will also do), being able to hear the rain and having lots and lots of layers around you. Right now I am thinking of the film 'The Holiday' and that cozy cottage in some snowy part of surrey. Yep, but anyway, I always feel that I read more in autumn, and here are my three favourite 'autumnish' books at the moment.

Harry Potter

No matter what Harry Potter book you read, whether that is 'The Philosopher's Stone' or 'The Prisoner of Azkaban' or 'The Deathly Hallows', there is something very autumnal about them. Whether that is because of the magic and the Halloween connotations or because you get transported into a new world and get completely lost in the story. Whether you have never read the books, or have, then I feel like autumn is the best time to start reading or rereading them.

Dream a little Dream by Giovanna Fletcher

Okay I actually read this book in summer and by the bright colours on the front cover it seems to be quite summary. However due to the dreams the main character is having and the one bit of the book being set in Autumn and christmas, and the book being very well written, it really does capture you. You want to be in the world with her, and you want to know what happens next.

Looking for Alaska by John Green

Probably slightly controversial that this is my favourite John Green book, and the book I read the quickest out of all his books I have read. There is something about the scene of the book that makes me feel that this is a book to read in autumn. Set in boarding school, where the main character is new, it really does reflect being a teenager and the struggles of joining a new school. The book makes you want to read more, and the fact the book is set in two halves 'days before' and 'days after' it almost reflects how events, and different places and situations in life are divided.

What books will you be reading this autumn?

It's the last Monday of September, which also means that it is the last of the University posts. The final University post is all about staying fit at university, without having to join the gym or a sports club. Although, if you do join a sports club then you may just fall in love with a sport that you never thought you would.

Let's get one thing straight, I have never been to a gym. I don't like working out in front of people, unless it is dancing, then I would do that all day everyday.

Over the past two years or so, I have found a love for working out to Youtubers. With so many to choice from, there is something for everyone. Also, a lot of these Youtube channels now create their own workout plans that hundreds of people follow.

If you want quick workouts, then the channel to go to is Lucy Wyndham Read. Lucy has lots of workouts to choice from on here channel, as well as a monthly plan on her website. I started following her after watching one of her videos with Anna Saccone at the beginning of the year and fell in love with her 4 minute HIIT workouts. They are so quick but they will make you SWEAT.

My Favourites include:

I heard about Blogilates about 2 years ago now, and I can honestly understand why here channel and her workouts are so popular; she encourages you throughout each workout just to keep going. She is totally positive in all of her workouts. From PIIT, to quick ab workouts and a monthly workout plan on her website, there is something for everyone. The workouts may be challenging, but you honestly do see results.

My Favourites include:

If you have not heard of Em Sheldon, then go and follow her blog because it is amazing, but Em has recently started to put some workout videos up on her channel as well. These quick workout videos are a great way to add on after doing one of Blogilates PIIT workouts or LWR 4 minute HIIT workouts.

My Favourites include:

Okay, Tone it Up isn't one of my favourite workout channels, but the pair do do some great workout videos, that are about 15 minutes long. My favourite has to be 'Total Body Tone Up', as when I first did it it felt like 2 minutes instead of 15 minutes, but it felt really good. I couldn't tell you my top 4 favourite workout videos from TIU because I don't have 4 favourites.

There are plenty of FITNESS channels on Youtube, but my favourites always come from people that are personal trainers. For example I love Carly Rowenas one song workouts whether thats for the abs or the butt and I know she is properly qualified, so I have no regrets after watching her videos. The same goes for Fitness Blender, whose videos I don't tend to watch as much as before, but I love their warm ups and their HIIT workouts.

Youtube is also a great place to go if you are looking for Yoga. At the beginning of the year I took part in the 30 Day Challenge on 'Yoga with Adriene', which I would highly recommend, as it makes you feel all kinda brilliant and you will soon be able to do the downward dog and the splits.

As yesterday was the first day of Autumn, it is only fair to do an autumnal post all about them berry and mauve lipsticks. Yep, I have brought out Charlotte Tilbury Bond Girl again, because I can not get enough out that beautiful one.

These are my four choices for the autumn, and surprisingly none of them are new to my collection.

Mac Twig has been a favourite of mine for a while now, and if you have visited my blog before then you would have probably have seen it floating around in some posts. For me Twig is that perfect go to lipstick. It isn't out there 'over the top', but it still does stand out. Twig being a satin finish, just gives it a something else compared to a matte finish, and it does have a slight berry undertone. As soon as I brought this lipstick  I knew it was a keeper, from the pigmentation to the fact that it actually lasts without drying my lips out.

Okay this has got to be one of my favourite lipsticks in my collection. I am a massive fan of Charlotte Tilbury lipsticks in the first place. Bond Girl is from the Matte Revolution collection, and is a beautiful natural berry colour, that really does stand out without saying 'I AM WEARING PURPLE' if you get me. The pigmentation is amazing, and although it is a matte I never feel like my lips are about to dry off of me. I always reach for Bond Girl, when I just want to look autumnal but also want something less dramatic, than a fall on berry or red.

This is my perfect berry coloured lipstick. It is as if I had created it for myself, and if I do say so myself the colour suits me. This L'oreal lipstick is a very berry berry red, it is quite dark on the lips but because of the purple undertones, it really does calm the effect on the lips down. As with all L'oreal lipsticks, this lipstick has a very creamy finish and has a slight shine to it.

Bow N Arrow is a very matte liquid lipstick, and is the nudist of the autumn lips. I decided to include Bow N Arrow simply because I love the effect and the colour of it. For me this lipstick is only really for A/W, and doesn't really work in the hotter months. If you have ever owned, or currently own a Kat Von D everlasting liquid lipstick, then you will know that they last about 6 hours on the lips, and to be honest I cant really be bothered to reapply my lipstick every time I eat in the cooler months, so this is just perfect.

Do you own any of these lipsticks?

There's something about making homemade choc chip cookies, well any type of cookies. For these little beauties, I used Tanya Burr's recipe from 'Tanya Bakes'. Very simple, quick and more importantly delicious.

The recipe is super simple, and you probably already have all the ingredients in your kitchen. You will need 250g of plain flour, 75g of caster sugar, 175g of cold butter and some chocolate chips. I actually used chocolate chunks instead of chocolate chips, but hey what ever floats your boat.

Now for the recipe which you can also find on page 15 of Tanya Bakes

1) Preheat the oven to 180C, then using greaseproof paper line a baking tray.

2) Mix together the sugar and flour, then using your fingers work in the cold butter to create breadcrumbs.

3) Add in your chocolate chips or chunks, and then work the mixture into a cookie dough ball.

4) Flour a surface, and roll the cookie dough out till it is about 1.5cm thick. Then cut it into what ever shape you like. I actually rolled mine into balls as I didn't have a square or a circle cutter. Looking back I could have just made a shape using card.

5) Arrange the cookie dough on the baking tray and cook for 15 to 20 minutes.

6) Once out of the oven sprinkle some sugar over them and transfer to a wire rack to cool.

If you have just started university and have a blog, then you are about to start a great juggle: University v. Blogging. Yep, it maybe a bit of competition of what gets your attention more. In fairness, it should probably be your university work, because ya know you are paying £9000 and will come out with a degree. On the other hand, you could also become a major blogger. Decisions.

One of the key parts on how to juggle between the two is to plan and organise. Plan out your week, wether that is with university deadlines, when you have to go to work, other events and when you have time to blog. Setting your self a few hours a week to blog and almost 'take time out' of university and focus on your blog. I would recommend buying a diary for university anyway, or use your phone/laptop calendar.

If your heart isn't in it, then don't do it.

If you really don't feel inspired to blog, then don't. You probably wont feel happy with your content and then start to fall out of love with your blog. It is better to take a rest than almost forcing posts out there. If you don't want to write posts, you could always take photos, tidy up backstage (design, emails etc).

Take breaks.

Take breaks from university and blogging. Don't stress out. Enjoy your down time and come back fresh and new. It helps.

We have all been there where we have woken up late, or mislead timings and suddenly have to get ready in about 20 minutes. Whether you are off to school, college, university or work, this is an easy 5 minute make up look for a dewy everyday look. (Also works with oily skin!!)

The most important thing: the base. For this look I primed my face with L'oreal True Match Highlighter. You can also use this product as a highlighter but I personal prefer it as just as primer, as it works much better on my skin as a base under my foundation. Continuing with the L'oreal products, the foundation I used was the Infallible 24H Matte foundation, which isn't my favourite foundation but it does give quite a natural finish, which isn't actually that matte on my skin.

If you have been reading my blog now for a while then you will know that I love the Collection Lasting Perfection concealer, for hiding all types of blemishes and them dark circles.

Bronzer wise I have used Benefit Dew the Hoola, which I have actually have grown to love. Since blending it in with a beauty blender it works better and gives a very natural bronze to the checks, just to warm the face up.

Continuing with face, the blush I am wearing is NARS Orgasm, with Becca Champagne Pop (perfector Pressed) highlighting my cheeks. Very quick, simple and looks almost effortless.

Now for the eyes, I have only used Urban Decay Naked Basics Palette to create a very natural  light brown not quite smoky eye, followed by adding L'oreal Miss Hippie Mascara (yep you probably saw that in my '3 to Try for September').

Brow wise it has to be my Bobbi Brown eyeshadow in Sable, which they actually do in an eyebrow kit, and it  honestly goes with the colour of my brows and hair perfectly. Then for setting the brows I have used Benefit Ready, Set, Brow

All in all this make up look took just over 5 minutes!

When you have all these wonderful Autumn style blog posts planned but cant post them because England decides it wants a heat wave. Lovely. Not that I am complaining. Anyway, due to this exceedingly warm weather for September, I thought I would do another 'MY GO TO LIPSTICKS' part 3.

Ya Ready?

First up is this beautiful YSL lipstick, in the colour 'Pink In Paris'. I brought this in the airport back in June and I have been wearing it ever since. It is like that perfect summer shade. What I really like about this lipstick is that it lasts even though it isn't a matte, so theres another bonus there.

Now I could not do a 'MY GO TO LIPSTICK' post without including a MAC lipstick. I think there has been at least one in all parts of this mini series. This time it is Syrup. Oh My. Now, I have had this lipstick for about a year now and have kinda forget about it, I never really liked it. Until a few weeks ago. I actually paired it with another MAC lipstick and loved the effect, However, I actually love it by it's self as well. A very moisturising lipstick and such a beautiful colour.

Another new brand to my lipstick collection is Marc Jacobs and this tiny little cute lipstick. Yes a lipstick can be cute, okay? 'Kiss Kiss Bang Bang', is my lips but better. It doesn't look like you are wearing a lipstick, well not on my lips anyway. I will be investing in the full size version of this lipstick very soon.

Last but not least is a liquid lipstick which was mentioned in my July Favourites, and that is Anastasia Beverly Hills 'Crush'. I actually prefer the ABH liquid lipsticks to the Kat Von D ones. I just feel that Crush stays on my lips better and does not go patchy, wheres some of the Kat Von D ones like to go quite patchy on my lips.

Do you have any of these lipsticks? What are you current 'go to' lipsticks?

It has become a common characteristic of a student, that students are poor and in debt. Yes, most students are, but there are some ways to get around the whole sigma of being a poor student. Even if you are a student, we all like to save money, and be a bit tight with money. It's cool.

First things first, Student Cards.

NUS card & Uni Days, you have probably heard of both of them. For the NUS card, you have to pay £12 to begin with and it lasts a year. Uni Days is an online website and app, which you dont have to pay a thing for, just enter your student email address and you get discounts.

NUS cards can have there advantages. A lot of shops and restaurants will NOT accept your uni days app, or your university card. They have to write down your NUS card number and your name. So if you want to save in store (and when you are abroad), then the NUS card is a good idea.

Uni Days on the other hand, is great for shopping online and it is FREE. Similar to shops, a lot of online websites such as Topshop, now only accepts your Uni Days code and not your NUS card number.

Both have positives and negatives, but I would suggest getting at least one of these, or both.

Similar to NUS card, invest in a 16-25 railcard even if you are not a student. You get to a 1/3 of rail fairs and you can use them across the whole country. If you do have an NUS card you also get around 11% of the price of the railcard. So instead of paying £30 for the year, you get just over £3 off.

Shopping, Shopping, Shopping!

Now if you are a student then food and booze (alcohol) will probably be on the top of your list. Go and sign up online for a Tesco Clubcard, Morrison Match & More card, Sainsbury's Nector Card or Marks & Spencer's Sparks Card. You get points for when you shop, which then means vouchers or money off. Winning!

I have to say I only got like one voucher from Tesco's throughout the whole of first year, but the points can soon add up!

While I'm on the subject of shopping, lets talk more about what's out there for clothes, beauty, stationary etc.

O2 Priority is a great way of saving money and getting some freebies. You do have to be on O2 though. Sign up, download the app and starting getting stuff. They often do freebies with Thortons, The Body Shop, Halfords etc. Also on Mondays you can get lunch for a £1 at Boots, WhSmiths and a few other places. On Tuesdays, you can often get a FREE hot drink at Cafe Nero as well.

If you are more into your beauty, then get your hands on a Boots card and a Superdrug card. The Boots card is slightly better as you can build up your points quicker, but the with the Superdrug card you can earn points and get student discount when you show your NUS card. However, the good thing about the Boots card is, they often have tripple points days, spend vouchers in the post for even more points and if you have the app you can earn even more points. For example, the other week I spent £48 in Boots and got over £8 worth of points.

You can also get a Paperchase card, where you dont actually earn points but can get a few discounts with them. With Foyles, if you sign up in store you can receive 10% off each purchase.

If you like your coffee (or Tea), then get a Costa card or Starbucks card. With the Costa Coffee Club card you earn points for every £1 you spend.

I'm kinda loving skincare products at the moment, so for two of this months '3 To Try' are skincare items. The first product i'm going to be trying out is La Roche Posay Effaclar Duo (+), which is a cream designed to target blemish and ache prone skin. As my face (in particular my chin) is really playing up right now, i'm hoping that this cream will help to sort it out.

Secondly, I have been wanting to try out Boots Tea Tree & Witch Hazel products for a while now, so I decided to pick out the facial scrub, again as an aid to help my skin out.

The third and final item that i'm going to be trying out in September is L'Oreal Miss Hippie Mascara. I'm actually really excited to try this mascara, as I love a lot of the a L'oreal mascaras to begin with, so I have quite a high expectation for this product.

If I really love these three products then they may just end up in Septembers Favourites, if not, they they probably haven't really worked for me.

Monday, 5 September 2016

As you might have seen already, I have done quite a few posts about 'University', and I'm going to continue this theme for every Monday in September. starting with '10 THINGS YOU REALLY NEED FOR UNIVERSITY'.

Before setting off to university, most people scale the internet to find a big old long list of stuff they need to take to university, espically first years. Yes, I was one of them people last year that scrambled across lists after lists after lists on the interent, on what I needed for university. In most of these lists I came across stuff that 1) I would never use and 2) would never need.

Over my first year of university, I found that I actually didn't need that many things to actually live and other stuff where just 'luxuries' that really I didn't need, but still wanted. Here are my 10 things that you really NEED for university!

Yes, 'food' probably sounds very obvious, but take what you like to eat and not what you think may come in handy. I took loads of tinned soup to uni, and came back home in June with most of it. I had soup at university about 3 times in December when I was feeling ill and couldn't be bothered to cook. Also, go shopping with your parents and stock up on frozen food, such as meat, fish, vegetables, ice cream etc, as it will be cheaper in the long run.
Check out my 'How To Eat Healthy At University' for some tips.

Even if you don't have an en-suite you still need to clean and tidy your room, and you will sill have rubbish. Just buy a sack of bin bags and keep them in your room, same with cleaning products. You may think you will never clean your room, but you may spill your dinner on your desk and do you really want to be living with that. No.

I had the luxury of living only half an hour away from university so I could take most of my washing home with me, but I still had to do the washing sometimes. Make sure to take a laundry bag with you, and some sort of washing stuff. Just ask your mum what she uses and buy the same thing, that way you know you are going to like it.

Yes again this another boring thing, but freshers flu will get you, paracetamol, plasters, savlon will help you. Whether you burn yourself, have a serious bad hangover (or period pain), cut your self, you will be thankful for your little kit.

Basically, buy a couple of big bottles of water and keep them in your room. Again, can be a massive life saver after a night out.

Just don't take your whole wardrobe or even half your wardrobe, because I hate to break it to you, but you will never wear item at university that you only wore once last March. Aint going to happen, and uni rooms have like no storage space!

Now, I am not saying take the whole of paper chase however much you actually want to. You need a couple of pens (most of which you can pick up in Freshers week), a couple of notebooks, a calculator (yes I do a politics degree and one of my modules still required me to do Maths) and a folder to keep all you notes safe. I would suggest just typing up your notes anyway after your lectures.

8. ID
Make sure to take some type of ID with you, because if you are going out of campus for a night out, your student card will probably not be excepted as 'ID', but if you are happy to just stay on campus then your student card will get you into everything.

Even if it is just on your phone, you will need an alarm for those 9am, 10am, 11am and probably even 5pm lectures. Yes, you will sleep a lot at university even if you don't know, wait to you start uni.

Make sure to take your own saucepans, baking trays, cutlery, plates, mugs, oven gloves, wooden spoons etc. A lot of people don't want to share these items and you will also not get the blame if you destroy someones else's.

Theres my 10 things you really NEED for university. Of course there are plenty more things that you actually need and probably want to take. Like it maybe a good idea to take a duvet, pillows, change of sheets, toothbrush, toothpaste, hair brush, shampoo, conditioner, shower gel, body lotion, make up, shoes, face wash, a bag, coat, watch etc etc etc.
